FAQs

1. How long are you going to be in Thailand?

Right now I am committed to 2 years but I might want to go longer.

2. What will you be doing in Thailand?

The simple answer is teaching, social work, and church planting. I will be a teacher at Chiang Rai International Christian School (CRICS) teaching music and whatever else they need. I will also be investing intentionally in the students there- most of whom are missionary kids. I'm also hoping to help out with chapel and any other ways that my music and teaching background can be used. I'm also looking forward to serving missionary families by providing quality education for their kids!
I am graduating in May with my Masters in Social Work so I hope to use my professional social work skills to serve the Chiang Rai community. Ways that I hope to do this include helping families with adoption, fighting against human trafficking (this is a HUGE problem in Thailand!), and being a resource to ministries and organizations who are working with vulnerable populations (refugees, the poor, orphans, human trafficking survivors, etc).

3. So, if you are going to have a job, why are you raising support?

All foreign teachers at CRICS are volunteers. The reason for this is to provide affordable education to families who are often living on support themselves.

4. How much do you have to raise?

My goal is $7,500 in one-time costs and then $2,000/month. The one-time costs go to things such as airfare, purchasing transportation when I get there (like a bike or a car), and moving costs (extra luggage). The $2,000/month will be what I need each month to live on for the next two years. That covers insurance, taxes, housing, food, transportation, personal, and savings.

5. I would like to give, how can I do that?

Options for giving are explained on the Instructions on How to Give/Join the Team page.

6. Is it better to give a larger one-time gift or a smaller recurring gift?

That is up to you. All funds end up in my account. I will say at this time, I am hoping for people who will pledge to a monthly gift. That could be as little as $5 or $10 a month all the way on up. You can also just pray and ask God what your part should be!

7. Are donations tax deductible?

    Yes!

8. I don't think I can give at this time, can I give in the future?

Yes, you can give at any point while I am in Thailand. Online giving makes this really easy! Please e-mail me for more information.

9. Are there other ways to support you besides giving?

Yes! I need people who want to support me through community and prayer. You can do this in several ways.
     1) Sign up to receive quarterly email newsletters (e-mail klight@quikmail.org to get on this list)
     2) Sign up to receive more frequent prayer updates (e-mail klight@quikmail.org)
     3) Follow my blog to see the exciting things that are happening in Thailand!
     4) Always feel free to e-mail me at klight@quikmail.org with encouragement, questions, or just an update about your life! I would love to hear how things are going for you and how I can support you and pray for you as well!
